Rencently, I haven been asked from our customers to compare the paper straws with our biodegradable PLA straws. Is it safe? Most people thought the paper straws are safe. As I did some research on both internet and also consult the professional professors in this fields. I have been told it is not safe as the most people think.——

The main technological process of papermaking industry is preparation, pulping, alkali recovery, bleaching, paper copying and so on. In the process of raw material preparation, dust, bark, sawdust, grass, pulp and alkali recovery, bleaching process to produce exhaust gas, dust, waste water, lime slag, etc., in the process of paper copying, all contain pollutants. The pollution of the environment by the paper industry can be divided into 3 categories, such as water pollution, air pollution and solid waste pollution. General pollution cannot be avoided.
>PVA glue is not safe
In order to make the paper straw can be well molded, PVA glue is needed in the production process. The full name of PVA is polyvinyl alcohol. If you did research, you will understant that PVA glue is not safe. When you drop the paper straw in the liquid, the paper straw will quickly expand, resulting in PVA glue shedding and dissolved in water. PVA is carcinogenic when dissolved in water. Inhalation and ingestion are harmful to the body.
>Effects of PVA on the Environment
It has always been widely believed that PVA is difficult to biodegrade, thus causing a large amount of accumulation in the environment to cause harm to the environment.
Effects of PVA on water Environment: The chemical properties of PVA are stable and difficult to biodegrade, and after being discharged into rivers in the form of desizing wastewater in the printing and dyeing process, they will accumulate in large quantities in water bodies. Because of its large surface activity, it will increase the surface foam of polluted water body, increase the viscosity, affect the activity of aerobic microorganisms, and be extremely unfavorable to the sensory properties and reoxygenation behavior of water bodies, thus inhibiting or even destroying the respiratory activities of aquatic organisms. Moreover, the discharge of the waste water containing pva into the water body can promote the release and migration of heavy metals in rivers, lakes and marine sediments, enhance their activity, and cause more serious environmental problems.
>After the paper straw is soaked in the liquid and bloated, the pulp is deposited at the bottom of the container. When you drink with the paper draw, it go into your body with the drinking liquid. So it's also very unsanitary.
> Printing and dyeing pigment go into your body with the liquid together too.
The waste paper straw is soluble in water after contact with the liquid and can directly pollute the water resources. and further pollute the soil.
For the enviroment protection and healthy, do not use paper straw.
